Progress on Design 152

Thinking about the previous blog, I am reminded that I have some new pictures from Peter, building Design 152.

As with most home builders he has had to take time off from yacht building to concentrate on his business and earning a living!

152 sidedeck What impressed and encouraged me was a picture of the fwd section of the sidedecks, joined up with our design of finger joint and laying around the coachroof. The fit directly from the CNC cut parts, joined together on the floor, was pretty impressive.

I know it should be like that – but there are a lot of processes to go through to get from design program, to a developed surface, and then to a DXF file. So it's great to see that it actually works!

It is a little daunting sometimes, drawing all those bits and pieces that go into making up a boat, knowing that they are going to be sent directly to a laser cutting machine and then arrive at the builders. No in-between checking. This is specially the case when shapes have to be developed so that their final 3-dimensional shape is accurately represented in 2-dimensions on a sheet of plywood.

So raise a glass for success – designer and builder!
