Hi George, I've just got your plans for Design 074, it seems to be just what I've been looking for, except for the LOA. I really wanted to keep the length under 5.5m so that it won't require registering in New South Wales. A reduction of 5% would bring it down to 5.476m, would this be a feasible/sensible thing to do? Would there need to be a reduction in sail size?
I've read of people increasing the length of designs by up to 10% apparently without problems, but is it OK to go the other way?

Thanks, Robert.

Theres no intrinsic problem with reducing the length by 5%. The sail area would probably be Ok – or might need reducing a little, which is not a problem.

There are several ways of reducing the length – the most usual is to reduce the frame spacing by 5% in every case. Doing this, the frame shapes can stay the same, just be a little bit closer together, and this would probably still produce a fair hull.

If you do decide to build her 5% smaller, I will do my best to help – but I am already way behind on modification work on this boat – see some of the other posts on the forum!
